We are a community-supported business. We don’t have a separate pool of investors at this time. We are interested in supporting community organizations and we have some experience raising money for non-profits. Here are a few things to consider before you approach us.
- Are you a familiar face? Have you been here a few times?
If the answer is yes, we are more likely to support the organization you’re raising money for. We have lots of active community-minded customers who donate their time to various organizations and we appreciate that as community members and business owners. We support those who support us first because if we donate our meagre resources to someone who has never been here before or doesn’t know what we do, then we don’t have the resources available to donate to our customers’ organizations.
- What is your organization and what do you need the funding for?
We try to support organizations with a large impact in the community. For example; the YMCA of Cumberland, Autumn House, the United Way, 100 Women Who Care, the Minor Hockey Association have a large impact across the community. Though we wish we could donate to ‘everyone’, we just can’t. So, we’re working on some guidelines for how we make the decision for what to support.
- Sports Teams?
We will be supporting a couple sports teams this year. We will do this by ‘paying’ the team for services. For example; if your team needs to raise money for equipment or to pay for a trip of a lifetime, we would train and hire the team to serve an event. This is an exchange of ‘we need a group of people to help at a one-time event’ for ‘We need money for this trip’.
- ‘Silent Auction Items’
If you’re asking for a donation for a ‘catered event’ and you’ve given another kitchen the catering business. The answer is ‘maybe next time’.
- Do you have someone willing to match our donation?
It’s really helpful to know that ‘if we donate, someone will match funds’. That’s called buy-in, and if you can get someone to match our donation, we may increase our donation amount knowing you have it matched by another company already. We donate $50, you get $100? That sounds good to us.
